I Keep Forgetting!

So... people confuse me - nothing new in that statement. There are people who have pride in what they do and then there are others. People who really don't have a friggin clue as to how anything works and just seem to focus really on their own needs.
Now I'm not against making sure that you take care of yourself but when you run a business, even an etsy business, it may be beneficial to you to actually pretend for a second that you should focus on your customers.
I bought a few small, what look like cute acrylic shapes from an etsy seller on 10/18 (almost 3 weeks ago) and as of now. Nothing. Nada. Zip. What I consider a giant 'FUCK YOU CUSTOMER WHO WAS STUPID TO GIVE US YOUR MONEY'. I've sent emails and have received two 'sorry, sorry, we'll get your items out to you' emails back.
It would be one thing if these were really elaborate items, handmade with great detail and true imagination. This is not the case. These items are made by machine, laser cut and ready to be shipped mere minutes after being made. The problem is that the machine died. It's sad but then DON'T SELL THINGS YOU DON'T HAVE IN YOUR SHOP. I would NEVER list an item that I can't replicate immediately. It will never happen, cause inevitably someone will buy that item and then what are you going to do?
Now less than a week ago I ordered a custom made dress from eShakti. These people are AMAZING. I placed the order and in less than a week I received my dress to my exact specifications and it's perfect. One week! It's still blowing my mind.
So the question is how can a company located in India be able to make from scratch a very well made dress and ship it half way around the world, when two 20 something year olds can't figure out not to sell items that they can't create and live half way across the country?
Now that my rant is over, I am looking forward to my new items and hope to have them in my shop sometime before Christmas.

Heat and Other Babble

Fall is here. Today is cooler than our record breaking heatwave on Monday. It's still not pleasant but I'm inside most of the day in a very cool office so I don't have much to bitch about.
I am looking forward to fall and to sweater. I love sweaters. I love the crisp air in the morning. The shorter days. Honey Crisp apple season. Walks on the beach. The whole thing.
September also brings back going to school for me so this year I've decided to take on a few new things. I haven't sung in years, mainly because I'm not a very good singer. But I like it and I think if I don't try to sing too loudly no one will be subjected to my voice, so I joined Towne Singers. The only part that blows is where they have their concerts. The church where... I don't even like to think about all that happened, even the good parts are tainted with the crap that ended up happenings. So I'm going to have to mentally get over it and just suck it up and deal.
I also decided to start ringing handbells again. Handbells is fun. I have loved ringing for years and missed it the past 4 years that I've stopped. The only problem that I have is skill with the music we're ringing and other players. I've rung for almost 25 years. I'm good. Really good. I can actually brag about what I can do in this one thing. Most groups are not to where I am and I have to be patient. But it's back and I know I'm going to have fun ringing again.
I've also started to learn how to knit. I love the knit part but the perl part BLOWS. What's fun is the person that I'm learning from was my handbell director for the 25 years.
Finally I'm taking enameling. It's fun. A lot of fun and the ideas for projects is growing daily. I already have ideas for what to make co-workers for holiday gifts as well as new ideas for my shop on etsy. I'm hoping I can start making necklaces and earrings by Sunday to list in my shop.
Oh yeah. The gym. Almost forgot. I'm going 3 - 4 days a week and lifting heavy. On Sunday I did back, arms and chest and wow, I'm still feeling it today. Tonight after bells we do cardio for an hour and tomorrow I do legs.
So that's it. Oh, I love this piece of music and it always makes me smile and I thought I would share

Once A Year

So once a year I get to do something quite amazing, I get to spend the week with the Sunshine kids in Los Angeles. This year is my fifth and each year I am more and more impressed with the kids an how incredible this organization is.
I am feeling a bit left out as I didn't take the vacation days I should have and instead of seeing these kids at Disneyland, I'm here at work. Oh well. Friday is the farewell party and I hope that the kids are having a blast today.

Reunion

Lots happened this past week. Reunion, houseguest, 3rd pool party in a month and finally getting sick from all the activity.
It all started last Wednesday when ‘Al’ arrived back in town and met up with my parents who were surrogate parents to him when we were growing up. I hadn’t seen Al in at least 20 years and decided to stop by and say hi. Al is different, not physically, he looks the same, just a bit broader, but mentally…
After two hours of Al talking almost non stop I found out that:

Hasn’t worked in a few years
Doesn’t want to work
His father-in-law offered him a job and he turned it down cause he didn’t want to deal with his father-in-law as his boss
Has decided that he’s going to home school his boys instead of finding a job
Doesn’t seem to agree that it’s hypocritical to have dual roles as parent/teacher when he didn’t want that same kind of relationship with his father-in-law
Has yet to take a college course and doesn’t feel that he should, yet teachers must complete 4 years as well as spend a year being trained to become a teacher
Every one of his siblings is also unemployed and they are all depressed
Everything you need can be found in the bible

I did counter on a few of his statements and I kept getting the same response – ‘you must have been in the debate team’. What does that have to do with anything?
So, after biting my tongue for what felt like an eternity I left to get ready for my best friend’s arrival.

I picked her up from the airport and we headed over to the first stop on the feed Jenn all her favorites list to In and Out. Grabbed lunch, headed to my house to eat and then swim. Al had mentioned that he might stop by at my parent’s house so I warned Jenn as we drove over. I think Al was tired of my arguments cause when we arrived my parents said that he wasn’t coming over, so there was less stress of me actually confronting someone till I got a satisfactory answer as to where I could find an excel answer in the bible.
My brother and sister as well as spouses and nephews arrived and it was peaceful.

On Friday I had decided that we would hunt down Jenn’s mom since she had an address and we didn’t have any of her kids with us, incase the address was real. Well it kind of was. So after 25 years we arrived in Hollywood to find the address that she had was not for an apartment building but for a PO box in a Public Mail shop. I was a little surprised when I asked if Michelle was the name on the box and was told yes, since Jenn had sort of concluded that it was another dead end. I took a pic of her by the mailbox and Jenn left a note. We ended up going through Beverly Hills and eating at the Islands where David Arquette and Courteney Cox were also having lunch.

Sat was the day of the reunion and being fat I had taken precautions over what to wear. In the end I had three outfits, all fit and had each been pressed and ready for the day. We had our hair done, mainly because I am a terrible girl and have yet to master makeup or hairdo so I thought that it would be in our best interest to get certain things done and since I don’t own a blow dryer Jenn would also want someone to make her pretty.
The next several hours were mainly a blur of meeting people, checking out our names on cards with our high school pics were on. Seeing actual stereotype as football players who never found a spouse tried to make out with their high school girlfriends, who were married and had brought their spouse. To faux single men making out with the late bloomers who have now come into their own. I was very glad to say that I didn’t have one crush on any guy there and it was a lot of fun to watch the stupidity.
It was also fun to see that some people that I had never talked to growing up I had a few things in common with. It was also a lot of fun being snubbed by girls who thought that they were still in a clique.

So there you have it.
On Sunday we had a few people over for another pool party. Unfortunately the weather has been so mild that our pool temp is somewhere in the mid 70’s and I doubt that we will be able to swim much after labor day weekend. Our house is not where I’d like it to be and poor Dan doesn’t realize that there are going to be projects for the bathroom coming up very soon as well as saving up for a 6 person hot tub too. Then yesterday I was feeling like crap (still am) and decided to sleep. Since Dan works next to LAX he was a wonderful husband and took Jenn to the airport.

MUST KNIT!

So. Well I suck as a blogger. No posts for months even though pithy topics do pop up in my head, but then laziness sets in and I can't remember what it was specifically that I want to write about so I forget. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.
Well right now I'm sleep deprived. Badly. It happens sometimes. I will start thinking and then BAM, sunlight and I still can't seem to shut off my useless brain. Two nights ago I started thinking and I still can't seem to shut my eyes and just relax enough to sleep, and because of this lack of sleep obsessions start to happen. Most of the time they're rather harmless fixations like 'when I get home I'm emptying every drawer and not going to stop till I've organized my life.' Not bad but then usually 40 minutes into it, when all the drawers are empty on the bed and the real work of discarding items and folding clothes to go back in needs to happen that I realize what a horrible thing I've begun.
Now most of my obsessions begin when I'm at work, staring at my computer, completely sleep deprived and yesterdays started off innocently enough, I was looking on etsy for items and since I'm currently in a weird problem with another etsy seller I thought I would look up knitting.
I have no compunction to begin knitting. It's hard enough to find the time to focus on jewelry making as well as hanging out with my husband and our friends, why would I want to knit??? I don't know but the minute the idea settled in my brain all I heard for two hours was
MUST KNIT
I WILL BE THE KNITTING CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
I WILL KNIT EVERYTHING AND BE WORSHIPED FOR MY KNITTING SKILLS
The thing is, I've tried it a couple of times. Never really liked it. Got bored and gave it up. But not this time, this time I'm determined. As now I've gone almost 50 hours with 4 hours of sleep so stand back world as I try to figure out how to cast and what a purl is.
I need sleep...
